GST/HST tax credit doubled for July to December 2022 period

The federal government has announced that, in order to assist Canadians in meeting increased living costs, the GST/HST tax credit amount will be doubled for a six-month period. The regular GST/HST tax credit will still be issued quarterly, in January, April, July, and October. However, extra GST credit amounts will be paid to all current recipients through the existing GST credit system as a one-time, lump-sum payment before the end of the year. There is no requirement to apply, but recipients must have filed their tax return for the 2021 tax year.
